Step outside, lovely car I have to travel very far It's too early, you're a whore And I don't think I can take this anymore Ten years on and I've forgotten everything about you I've moved on and on and I am living here without you And I heard you got married, had a baby or two Or maybe that just seems like what you might do You haven't crossed my mind now in so long Fumbled through old notebooks and I stumbled on this song Screen door slams, empty town One stoplight, nobody's around Morning breeze and day's not dawned I look behind me, it's all gone Ten years on and I've forgotten everything about you I've moved on and on and I am living here without you And I heard you got married, had a baby or two Or maybe that just seems like what you might do You haven't crossed my mind now in so long Fumbled through old notebooks and I stumbled on this song I used to say Happiness is seeing Mitchell, Indiana In my rearview mirror But you know that that's not true Happiness is the life I found without you Step outside, lovely car I have to travel very far It's too early, you're a whore And I don't think I can take this anymore

Just north of the beautiful Ohio River In Southern Indiana where I was a boy There's a little old town I'd like not to remember And when I pass through I make sure to avoid And I hope that I never see Jeffersonville ever again, ever again And I hope that I never see Jeffersonville ever again, ever again It's a shame that it's named for a great president When it's nothing but fast food and trashed parking lots It's the kind of place that don't have no residents Just folks who passed through, meant to leave and forgot And I hope that I never see Jeffersonville ever again, ever again And I hope that I never see Jeffersonville ever again, ever again I once knew a girl with the bad luck to live there In a rundown motel room, all yellow and grey And she spent all her time looking out at the river And wishing that it would carry her away And I hope that I never see Jeffersonville ever again, ever again And I hope that I never see Jeffersonville ever again, ever again And I hope that I never see Jeffersonville ever again, ever again And I hope that I never see Jeffersonville ever again, ever again

We ain't going outside today The bridge is blocked, cars are stopped on the highway And it's two weeks to Derby Day I feel like a racehorse, I just wanna run away There's people piled up on the Great Lawn Seeking some explosive siren song They make a mess and then they're gone 'Cause they know a cleanup crew will be coming along And when the Thunder comes They throw a nighttime pyrotechnic celebration They're by the river having fun The sky will be smothered with smoke when they're all done They stare at sparks 'til their eyes hurt They wanna know exactly how the fire works Afterwards, they leave in spurts And in the morning slowly the city reverts And when the Thunder leaves The smoke will clear and we will be able to breathe The partygoers briefly grieve Then ready for the next stop, endless Derby Eve We ain't going outside today...

Let the sky open up, just like an angry eye And let the rain come down Let the water rise up, and let it overrun this town Let the river rise up, and let all the bridges fall Let it sweep over us all Let the Mighty Ohio reclaim its great divide Let Kentuckiana finally break open wide Like a bridge under troubled water, let everything drown Let us sink into the river, the Bridge Project let us down Let the K&I Bridge be the first to wash away And of course the Kennedy Let the Sherman Minton and even the 2nd Street Let them all admit defeat To the Mississippi, then to the Gulf of Mexico Let them all finally go Let the Mighty Ohio reclaim its great divide Let Kentuckiana finally break open wide Like a bridge under troubled water, let everything drown Let us sink into the river, the Bridge Project let us down Let the Mighty Ohio reclaim its great divide Let Kentuckiana finally break open wide Like a bridge under troubled water, let everything drown Let us sink into the river, the Bridge Project let us down

about

This is a collection of three songs about the area I came from: Southern Indiana and the Louisville Metropolitan Area, commonly referred to as Kentuckiana. I have intentions of re-recording these songs in expanded versions with a good friend of mine. But in the meantime, I recorded this set of demos over the course of one afternoon, Thursday, May 9, 2013.
